New River Gorge: Winter Botanicals

Whilst many would look past faded plants in the winter, I was inspired by the work of others (in particular an article entitled “What Remains: The Beauty of Winter in the Garden” by Anne Belmont) to look closely at them. The soft colors and haunting shapes really captured my imagination, and I spent more than a few afternoons poking about in open areas and along trails, looking for soft colors and subtle gestures. There were many, and I feel that this subject alone could have been the sole focus of my work during the residency.
